There are a number of CIOs who have made their names by running IT at a diverse array of companies. Others join large, multi-business unit multi-naitonals, and are able to have as diverse a set of experiences under the auspices of the same parent company.
Jim Fowler, the CIO of GE Capital, falls in the second bucket. Fowler has been an IT executive for GE Infrastructure, GE Aviation, GE Intelligent Platforms, GE Power Generation Services & CSA Automation, and GE Power & Water prior to taking his current post roughly a year ago.
