Have Your Cake And Eat It: Big Data Without Hadoop

It’s about time: More than 10 years after we first heard the term, “big data” has become productive. The world’s largest enterprises — Apple, Wal-Mart and countless others — run large-scale data processing and analytics inside massive Hadoop deployments, for building features like personalization and recommendations

Hadoop, an open source software framework, was built for the distributed storage and processing of massive data sets on normal computer clusters. In essence, Hadoop is a really big file system that can run custom data processing jobs.
