Multivalue databases handle certain data structures that are just a little too complex for conventional relational databases. This post is one of a series that introduces the fundamentals of NOSQL databases, and their role in Big Data Analytics.

What is a multivalue database? Multivalue databases have tabular structure that allows multiple values for attributes. Multivalue databases are also called NF2, non-first normal form systems. How are multivalue databases different from a relational database? Multivalue databases are both similar to, and different from, conventional relational databases.
