How to get the right data? Trying asking for it.

While the technical skills of data science — think modeling with a gradient boosting machine — get most of the attention, other equally important, general-purpose problem-solving abilities can be overlooked.

Proficiency in asking the right question, being persistent, and taking advantage of multiple resources are critical to the success of a data science project but often take a back seat to coding ability when people ask what it takes to be a data scientist. Recently, I was reminded of the importance of these non-technical skills while working on a data science for good project.
