One of the phrases that stuck with me from those days was the in underivable quote of “amateurs practice until they get it right; professionals practice until they can’t get it wrong.” In my professional working life, I have striven to identify those things that I want to be sufficiently competent at doing and those things that I consider a fundamental part of my professional competence, and then in making a clear distinction between the two.
